Following the last post about the software used in the
network industries, we have decided to analyse the GNS3. So I began my journey,
well literally a journey. The software is not easy to find as it seems that it is
free but only for students and the student have to register to their website to
be able to have access to the downloads. However, it is not as easy as it sounds.
Once you have registered and activated your account, you
have to know what software you want o download as they have a large variety of
software, with no description of the differences between them. Once that I have
figured out which one was the one I was looking for I find myself with another challenge.
The installer keeps giving options to add other software to
your system but does not tell you that you may need them in order to have to
full access to the full software potential. With that came a surprise, once I managed
to finish the installation of the program, I came to learn that I actually
needed a few of the extra software that the installer was suggesting me to
install and without those programs, I would not be able to have all the network
devices available on my simulation as the router are not installed.
Upon trying to stall, I came across another barrier and that
was, to install cisco images I would have to pay $100 just to have access to
the images, there is no need to say that I did not pay that money.
Besides that problem, the program came to be relatively easy
to use just with feel faults that we will go a bit more in-depth in the next analyses.
